Croydon's economic fight-back wins national acclaim
Tuesday 30 June 2009
Croydon has been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards for its campaign to boost the economy and bring jobs and opportunities here.
The Regeneration & Renewal Awards recognise the work of local authorities, property developers and local people to improve the quality of people's lives.
Croydon's short listing is in two categories: 'Regeneration partnership of the year' and the award for 'Boosting a local economy'. The Croydon Enterprise programme and the work of partners from all sectors featured highly in both award entries.
Regeneration & Renewal magazine is keeping the names of the shortlisted organisations confidential until the official presentations at a gala dinner in London on 23rd September.
The 'Regeneration partnership of the year' award is given to the entrant that can demonstrate the most effective regeneration impact in the specified period. To be eligible, partnerships must involve organisations from two or more of the following sectors public, private and voluntary/community. Judges will particularly be looking for evidence of strong partnership working, with a significant proportion of the members of the partnership making a contribution to success
The 'Award for boosting a local economy' is given to the organisation that has done most to improve a deprived area's economy, whether by fostering supporting indigenous businesses, nurturing start-ups, attracting inward investment, developing the local skills base or other methods.
